Adorable coonhound named Lou breaks Guinness World record for 'extravagantly long' ears

A pooch has landed her spot in the Guinness World records for an adorable feature — extremely long ears.

At 13.38 inches each, Lou the coonhound broke the record for the longest ears on a living dog and the feat secured her a spot in the Guinness World Record 2022 book, according to Guinness.

"Of course everyone wants to touch the ears, they’re very easy to fall in love with with just one sighting," Paige Olsen, Lou's owner, told Guinness.

Olsen, a veterinary technician, told Guinness she fell in love with Lou at first sight before adopting her and joked that Lou’s ears are "extravagantly long".

"All black and tan coonhounds have beautiful long ears, some are just longer than others," Olsen told Guinness.

"Their long ears drag on the ground and stir up scents when they are tracking out in the field. It makes them great at following long, very old or 'cold' tracks that other breeds of dog may not pick up on."

Sheltering in place during the COVID-19 pandemic sparked Olsen to measure Lou's ears. Surprisingly, she said they don't require much maintenance and she checks them once a month for cleanliness.

The new record for Lou adds to a list of other titles she's won from the American Kennel Club and Rally Obedience, according to Guinness.

Olsen told Guinness that Lou is a star everywhere she goes and many "cannot wait to get her paw-digraph."
