Adele frustrates fans with sudden Vegas residency postponement: 'Thanks for the notice'

Adele fans are reeling after the singer's sudden announcement Thursday that her Las Vegas residency, set to begin Friday, would be postponed because of COVID-19-related production delays.

"I’m so sorry, but my show ain’t ready," Adele said in a tearful video posted to Twitter Thursday. “We’ve tried absolutely everything that we can to put it together in time and for it to be good enough for you, but we’ve been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and COVID – half my crew are down with COVID, they still are – and it’s been impossible to finish the show.”

Her Las Vegas residency, titled "Weekends with Adele" and announced in November, was set to kick off Friday at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace and run through April.

Caesars Palace said on its website Thursday night that all events originally scheduled for "Weekends with Adele" Jan. 21 through April 16 "have been postponed."

Though the singer received an outpouring of support on social media after her announcement, many fans expressed frustration, anger and disappointment after booking hotel and travel arrangements, plus taking time off work, only for the show to be canceled the day before.

"That's awesome but I flew across the entire country for tomorrow's show," wrote @brittrimmey on Twitter. "Thanks for the notice"

Andrea Perez, who arrived from Mexico City Thursday afternoon, learned of the cancellation after arriving at Caesars Palace.

"We were first going to see Celine Dion and then she canceled, and now Adele," she told USA TODAY while standing in front of the Colosseum box office. "I love Adele. I love all her songs. But I think it's not a good idea to tell people (of a cancelation) one day out."

Perez said she would not be able to return once Adele announces new dates. "It's impossible."

Twitter user @KathyRangel729 wrote that her daughter and "her BFF" flew in from Chicago and Kansas to see the show. "All that money, time and risks for naught. So sad for my girls," she wrote.

@duttslanahf said on Twitter that she flew in Thursday morning to see the show with her son as a surprise for his 20th birthday.

"Understandable but hard to accept with so last minute," she wrote. "No reimbursement will be given for all of the travel expenses so not sure what to say. The last minute part is hard to swallow."

Eileen Colbert, 51, who flew in from Atlanta Thursday morning, was on the Strip getting a coronavirus test to attend the show when a friend texted with the news.

While disappointed, Colbert, who was wearing an Adele tour shirt from 2016, remains unwavering in her fandom.

"Her talent is otherworldly. Her voice is indescribable. And she's just adorable and a great role model for her generation," Colbert told USA TODAY.

She and three girlfriends from around the country purchased tickets for opening night through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program; they hope rescheduled dates will allow them to attend the new opening night show.

"As much as we hated to see her message, it speaks to who she is as a person," Colbert said. "We have the flexibility to pay for another trip, so we will be there."

Other fans were also understanding of the postponement.

"please take all the time you need to stay healthy and reschedule the shows," wrote @sweetenerkiid. "i was supposed to see you tomorrow (opening night) but i totally understand the situation & you shouldn’t be embarrassed at all. this is in no way, shape or form your fault. stay safe babe. we love you"

User @ashlovert noted that health should "always come first."

"I had tickets to see u tomorrow and it’s fine," she wrote. "pls don’t feel guilty, it breaks my heart, I LOVE YOU"

The string of Vegas concerts marks the first live performance dates open to the public after the release of Adele's fourth studio album, "30," which became her third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. It debuted as the biggest-selling album of the year, according to Billboard.

After the announcement, Caesars Palace issued a statement in support of the pop star and the "extraordinary" shows she will unveil in due time.

"We understand the disappointment surrounding the postponement," the statement read. "Adele is an incredible artist, supremely dedicated to her music and her fans."

The statement noted that guests who had hotel reservations for Friday and Saturday may call to cancel with a full refund.
