Adam Gase won't discipline Le'Veon Bell for going bowling after being ruled out for Sunday's game

It wouldn’t be a New York Jets season without a weird controversy surrounding one of the team’s star players. Thankfully, the team delivered Tuesday, as coach Adam Gase responded to a story suggesting Le’Veon Bell spent Saturday night bowling after the Jets ruled him out for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

The 27-year-old Bell missed practice on both Thursday and Friday due to an illness. On Saturday, the team evaluated Bell and determined he was still contagious. As a result, the Jets told Bell he would not play in Week 14.

Bell handled that news by ... going bowling, apparently. The New York Post reported that Bell spent Saturday night at a bowling alley.

Gase was asked about Bell’s night out, and said Bell would not face punishment for bowling. Gase explained that he can’t punish Bell since Bell didn’t violate any team rules. The team told Bell not to come in, and he listened. Gase added he can’t make Bell stay home and in bed.

While Bell won’t be punished, Gase didn’t seem too happy his running back had a night out. Gase said he would talk to Bell about the situation. Gase also agreed that it looked bad that Bell was bowling when he was supposed to be sick.

Bell took a more humorous approach to the story, saying he bowled a career-high coming off the flu.

With Bell out, the Jets narrowly defeated the Dolphins in Week 14. The team won 22-21 on a field goal as time expired. Bilal Powell saw most of the time at running back, carrying the ball 19 times for 74 yards.

After missing Sunday’s game, Bell returned to practice Monday. He’s expected to play when the Jets take on the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.
