Do you know a woman making a difference in her community? Well, L’Oreal Paris’ nominations for its Women of Worth program are now open.

To learn more about the program and why you should nominate a woman making strides in her community, In The Know’s Jamé Jackson spoke with actress Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away With Murder, The Birth of a Nation and The Upside). Read on to learn how she gives back to her community, the Women of Worth program and, of course, her favorite makeup products while on the go.

Talk to us about why you wanted to partner with L’Oreal and, specifically, their Women of Worth program.

Each year, L’Oreal Paris recognizes 10 extraordinary women from across the country who have truly turned their purpose into action through charitable giving. And as a L’Oreal Paris spokeswoman, there’s nothing I take pride in more than using my platform to elevate the work of these everyday heroes. They really do show us the power each one of us can make in the lives of others when we own our power and self-worth.

I love the fact this program highlights everyday heroes.

A lot of [the honorees] have used the pain that they have experienced themselves or the turmoil that they have witnessed in their communities and turned it into such beautiful actions to impact the people around them. And it’s really incredible.

This is why I want to encourage those who know an extraordinary woman in their community to go and place their nomination — each honoree will have the chance to receive up to $45,000 for their charity. We’ve been able to see what women can do without that investment. Like, without that financial support. Let’s see how much further it can go when we do give them that support.

How do you show up for your community?

For me, I try to show up for my community by using my voice to amplify the causes that I find meaningful, as well as participating in the organizations that are fighting for racial and gender equality. I love being around young people. I love seeing how brave and bold they are, how hungry and eager they are to make a difference.

As an actress, you’re always in front of the camera. What are some of the beauty products that you swear by to stay camera-ready?

A huge part of staying camera-ready is really loving and taking care of your skin underneath the makeup. That’s why I love L’Oreal’s Hyaluronic Acid Serum. It is so luscious on my skin and a huge part of my self-care routine. It’s made such a huge difference in just the suppleness of my skin.

I love my Lash Paradise mascara! It has always been my go-to because it’s so good. It volumizes, lengthens and doesn’t clump up.
