Competing with five Japanese skaters in the six-woman field, Amber Glenn of the United States continued her breakout season in figure skating by taking the lead in the short program at the Grand Prix Final on Thursday as world champion Kaori Sakamoto fell. Glenn landed the competition's only triple axel jump on her way to a score of 70.04 points. Glenn said she “pinched a rib” on an awkward landing of the axel and “held back on the following two jumps," which both lost points on execution.

Tsunami warning lifted after powerful earthquake off California coast
Millions of people were told to prepare for a tsunami after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of northern California. Officials raised the alarm after the quake struck at 10.44am local time (6.44pm) around 39 miles southwest of Ferndale, near the Oregon border, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The tsunami warning covered a large stretch of the California and Oregon coasts populated by around 4.7 million people – but was eventually lifted around an hour after it was issued.

US judge rejects Boeing plea deal in fatal 737 MAX crashes
(Reuters) -A U.S. judge on Thursday rejected Boeing's agreement to plead guilty to fraud in the wake of two fatal 737 MAX crashes, faulting a diversity and inclusion provision in the deal. Boeing did not immediately comment. The U.S. Department of Justice, which brokered the plea bargain with Boeing, is reviewing the opinion, a spokesperson said.

Russian stowaway now charged for sneaking onto Delta flight to France
The Russian woman accused of sneaking onto a Delta Air Lines flight from New York to Paris has been charged with knowingly and intentionally secreting herself aboard an airplane. Svetlana Dali, 57, was arrested by the FBI on Wednesday after returning to New York. "On or about November 26, 2024, the defendant Svetlana Dali snuck onto Delta Airlines flight DL264 at JFK without a boarding pass and flew as a stowaway to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris," according to the criminal complaint obtained by ABC News.
