Aaron Eckhart: Superhero movies need to be 'more real'

‘Bleed For This’ star Aaron Eckhart says Christopher Nolan’s Batman films were so successful because the British director “held up a mirror to what’s happening in cities today”, and the new wave of DC Comic films – spearheaded by Zack Snyder – could be improved by making them “more real”.

The 48-year-old actor who played villain Harvey “Two-Face” Dent in 2008’s ‘The Dark Knight’ says the seminal superhero film worked because “[Nolan] made it about our times and that’s how we filmed it”.

“The superhero movies [of today],” Eckhart added in our video above, “if they concentrated more on… you know… being real, then I think they would have more importance and people would get more from them.”

Eckhart also heaped praise on his ‘The Dark Knight’ co-star Heath Ledger, who earned a posthumous Oscar for his portrayal of the Joker.

“Heath came in and just took the Joker to a different level. He made him so real, and that’s why that particular movie is so important.”

‘Bleed For This’ is coming to UK cinemas on Friday, 2 December. Watch a trailer below.
