9-year-old drowns after going to pool alone, CA cops say. Now family members arrested

A 9-year-old boy drowned in a California swimming pool in July, and now two family members have been arrested on child endangerment charges, the Mountain View Police Department said in a news release.

The 25-year-old and 42-year-old Mountain View residents were arrested on Thursday, Oct. 6, following an investigation into the child’s drowning, police said.

Investigators determined the two family members were “liable for neglecting to keep a watchful eye on the child” because he left the home alone and no adult was present when the boy drowned, police said.

After life-saving measures were performed on the boy on July 6, he was taken to a hospital where he died, police said.

“This news is devastating for our community, particularly the parents and students impacted by this tragic loss,” police Capt. Saul Jaeger said in the release. “I am grateful for the perseverance of our detectives in getting to the bottom of this case and bringing some justice to this young boy.”

Mountain View is about 40 miles southeast of San Francisco.
