UK shop prices fall less sharply in November, survey shows
Prices in British shops fell less sharply this month, according to a survey from the British Retail Consortium on Tuesday that suggested consumers could face renewed pressure on their spending power. Annual shop price deflation of 0.6% in the 12 months to November followed a 0.8% drop in the 12 months to October, the BRC said. Its measure of shop price inflation dropped between May 2023 and July this year after which it fell further into deflation, until now.

UK outlines first steps in new plan to get more people back into work
Britain's government said on Tuesday it plans to increase access to mental health support and to reform job centres as part of its push to get more people back into the workforce. Mental health support will target geographic areas with high rates of labour market inactivity and job centres will focus more on providing career advice than on policing the benefits system, a government statement said. Details of the government's plan were due to be published last on Tuesday.

Rio Tinto-backed lithium tech startup set to raise second round of funds
A lithium technology startup backed by Rio Tinto expects to finalise a funding round in the next week to raise A$27.5 million ($17.8), even as the global lithium market struggles, its Melbourne-based CEO told Reuters. ElectraLith is developing a filtration technology that can extract lithium from brine deposits without using water or chemicals, which would be key in arid areas like Chile's Atacama desert, and needs only small amounts of energy. "The lithium market is not great, venture capital markets aren’t great, (so) the fact we are about to close this round with an oversubscribed investor base ... for us that’s fantastic," CEO Charlie McGill told Reuters.
