82-year-old loves his job so much he won’t quit — even after his Virginia lottery win

It takes a lot to sway the hard-working heart of 82-year-old Vicente Mosquera.

Even winning $285,316 in the Virginia Lottery didn’t compel him to give up his job, Mosquera told lottery officials. He headed straight to work after collecting his prize.

Mosquera, who lives in Virginia Beach, still works as a waiter in an Italian restaurant, according to lottery officials.

He keeps his job for a simple reason: because he loves it, he told lottery officials.

Mosquera bought a Cash 5 with EZ Match lottery ticket at the Food Lion on Sandbridge Road in Virginia Beach, lottery officials said. He matched all five winning numbers, which snagged him the jackpot in the April 23 drawing.

His winning number combination — 19-23-30-33-38 — was a sequence that someone had “told him years ago,” according to lottery officials.

The odds of matching all five numbers in the Cash 5 with EZ Match are 1 in 749,398, according to the Virginia Lottery.

Virginia Beach is about 18 miles east of Norfolk.
