Russia's weekend strikes badly hit Ukraine's biggest private power producer
Russia's weekend missile strikes hit three of the five working thermal plants owned by Ukrainian power giant DTEK and one of them is still offline, an industry source said, illustrating the severity of the latest blow to the national grid. DTEK, which is Ukraine's largest private power producer and which provided a quarter of the country's electricity needs before Moscow's February 2022 invasion, has been hammered by a campaign of aerial assaults that Russia renewed in March. After a pause in major strikes on the grid, Russia fired a salvo of more than 200 missiles and drones on Sunday, reigniting concern about the already hobbled energy system as winter sets in.

Russia's diamond miner Alrosa to cut production and staff in 2025
Russia's Alrosa, the world's largest producer of rough diamonds by volume, may suspend some production in 2025 and cut staff as it grapples with low global prices, the sanctions-hit company's CEO, Pavel Marinychev, said on Thursday. Marinychev said the global diamond industry was in a "deep crisis," with prices falling for a second consecutive year. For Alrosa, this crisis is exacerbated by a ban on Russian diamond sales to G7 and EU countries as part of Western sanctions.

Temu owner PDD misses revenue and profit estimates as consumers struggle
(Reuters) -Discount e-commerce player PDD Holdings fell short of market estimates for third-quarter revenue and profit on Thursday, as its low prices did not persuade cost-conscious consumers to spend as much as expected on its platforms. U.S.-listed shares of PDD, which runs the Pinduoduo online shopping site in China and Temu internationally, were down more than 10% in pre-market trading. Higher unemployment among Chinese youth and a property sector crisis have taken a toll on consumer confidence, holding back sales at Pinduoduo.
