This list is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Walmart has become increasingly popular as a grocery store, for its wide and diverse selection of products—with everything from pantry staples and prepared food to freezer finds and baked goods—all of which are affordably priced. This makes Walmart a top choice for weekly shopping trips that satisfy all your household needs.
There are so many great foods to buy at Walmart and regularly keep at home as “go-to” items for easy, quick meal-prepping, snacking, and entertaining. There’s even a deli section of hot food at Walmart with ready-to-eat items like mashed potatoes and mac and cheese.
The bakery department at Walmart is another area not to overlook, too, since it’s stocked with a variety of delicious desserts you’ll definitely want to toss in your cart. There are tons of items to browse, but these are some of the best options and desserts to buy at Walmart.
The Sweetest Walmart Bakery Desserts
Marketside Decadent Chocolate Chunk Cookies
“These classic chocolate chip cookies are soft, chewy, and loaded with semi-sweet chocolate chips,” says registered dietitian and Walmart customer Trista Best, MPH, RD, LD. A pack has six cookies and costs around $5, so they’re an excellent and convenient choice for their quality and value—along with a rich, chocolatey flavor that won’t leave you disappointed, either. Cookie fans: if you find Walmart’s Oreo S’moreo Cookies on shelves, you’ll want to grab those, too.
Freshness Guaranteed Apple Pie
Apple pie is a warm, comforting crowd-pleaser, and Walmart’s is a great dessert to serve during the holidays for entertaining and get-togethers. “It has a flaky crust and a sweet, tart apple filling,” Best says, noting a whole pie typically costs $5-7 dollars, depending on size. For instance, you can buy the pie in either 24 or 39 ounces, priced at $5.82 and $6.82, respectively. It has a lovely touch of cinnamon and spice served à la mode with ice cream.
Marketside Strawberry Butter Cake
A relatively new dessert at Walmart, this berrylicious, miniature treat costs $5.78 for a two-pack and resembles a tart of sorts. As part of Walmart’s Marketside brand, the Strawberry Butter Cake is dense and chewy in texture and crust, with all the flavors of a strawberry shortcake, but soft and moist inside, with a gooey and “jammy” type of filling. It gives the best of both worlds.
“Walmart's bakery offers freshly baked cinnamon rolls, which are known for having a gooey cinnamon-sugar filling and cream cheese icing,” Best says. A four-pack is around $5. The cinnamon rolls can be savored as dessert or a sweet snack or breakfast, and appeal to many customers. If you love pumpkin spice, swap classic cinnamon for a seasonal variety and try the Pumpkin Cake Roll available at Walmart before the year ends. (We aren’t sure how long it’s on shelves post-holiday season or next year, so grab ‘em while you can now.)
Marketside Red Velvet Cupcakes
Sold in various sizes and packs under Walmart’s private label brand Marketside, these vibrantly colored red velvet cupcakes are made and filled with real cream cheese for decadence and a soft and smooth moistness in texture. “They offer a generous swirl of cream cheese frosting,” Best says, which tastes "perfectly sweet and tangy."
Marketside French Style Cheesecake Mousse
Also part of Walmart’s private label Marketside, this light and delightful dessert is a favorite choice among customers and comes in two sizes, 5.5 ounces, and 16 ounces, as well as different flavors, which include strawberry, turtle (with drizzled caramel-chocolate and a chocolate cookie crust) and lemon. The smaller cup size costs around $2.44, and the larger is priced at about $6.94. The cheesecake tastes gourmet, so no matter which flavor you choose—you really can’t go wrong.
