5 unique events in Sacramento this weekend: Weekend train ride, booze and books, more
Hot temperatures aside, this weekend is a great opportunity to enjoy the summer sun.
On Friday and Saturday, temperatures range in the 90s, followed by 100 degrees on Sunday. So if you do head out, make sure to grab sunscreen and water, too.
Here’s what’s happening in the Sacramento area this weekend, June 8 to June 10:
Friday
Watch a comedy show under the moonlight
3020 Renwick Ave, Elk Grove
Comedy Under the Stars, hosted by Cosumnes Community Services District, is showcasing its second night in Elk Grove. From 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., you can watch some stand up while stargazing, picnicking or both.
Friday’s headliners include Emily Van Dyke, Justin Lucas and Marc Yaffee, according to the district website.
Attendees must be 18 and over, and there won’t be any food vendors. Tickets are $15 if you register early online, by phone at (916) 405-5600 or at Cosumnes CSD registration counters. It’s $18 at the door.
Take the weekend train
125 I Street, Sacramento
The California State Railroad Museum and Foundation is hosting weekend train rides on the Sacramento Southern Railroad. The train will transport you through the Sacramento River levees for six miles, the museum website says.
Guests can ride in the coach cars or open-air gondolas. This is an ongoing event with dates scattered through to September.
You have the option of riding coach or first class, with general admission starting for adults at $15 and $25, respectively.
Saturday
Go for a walk in nature
2140 Chase Drive, Rancho Cordova
See what Sacramento’s nature has to offer with Soil Born Farms’ Nature Lovers Walk. Naturalist Cliff Hawley will guide you through the walk as you explore different plants, birds and insects in the area, according to the organization’s website.
Tickets are $15.
Sunday
Grab some booze and books
5090 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento
Wild Sisters Book Company is hosting a blast to the past with a book fair, but there’s a twist. Its Boozy Book Fair features classic children’s literature, knick knacks and adult beverages.
The event, starting at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. is free for all ages, according to the Facebook event page.
Have Sunday brunch
K Street, Sacramento
The Downtown Partnership and Old Sacramento are coming together to present “Second Sunday Brunch Market,” a pop-up brunch every second Sunday from June to October.
Restaurants in the area will be offering brunch and mimosas, there will be live music, as well as events from local businesses. K Street will be closed down for the event, according to the Eventbrite page.
