5 things to do this weekend in Boise: sold-out arena comedy show, wine tastes, uppercuts

The weekend has arrived, Boise. There are lots of things to do.

Here are highlights on the entertainment calendar.

1. Do a big comedy show

Well, maybe not. Only if you want to attend by yourself. Comedian Jo Koy essentially has sold out his 4,800-capacity concert Saturday at Idaho Central Arena. A smattering of tickets remain, but they’re singles.

If you’re determined to buy tickets to something, four outdoor summer concerts at the Ford Idaho Center Amphitheater go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at fordidahocenter.com: Luke Bryan, Young the Giant, Michael Franti & Spearhead and Barenaked Ladies.

2. Eat ice cream for breakfast

Saturday is National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. To celebrate, all six Idaho Reed’s Dairy locations will serve a French toast breakfast topped with ice cream and syrup. And an ice-cold glass of milk on the side. All for $3.50. Stores will open early and sling the special from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. while supplies last. While you’re there? “Reed’s also has prepackaged ice cream to take home, along with other products available in their stores, such as chocolate milk, cream, cheese, farm-fresh eggs and honey – all Idaho sourced,” a press release adds. You’ll find Reed’s Dairy in Boise at 10785 W. Lake Hazel Road, in Meridian at 1735 W. Chinden Blvd. (Chinden and Linder) and in Kuna at 1353 N. Meridian Road.

3. Go to a bar concert

4. Sip Idaho wine

Love wine? Enjoy it outside on the ski hill or inside at a local winery.

▪ If you’re up at Bogus Basin, take a vino break from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday on the Simplot Plaza. You’ll be able to sample wine from three local wineries, meet Idaho winemakers and learn about Idaho Winter Wine Weekends.

▪ What are Winter Wine Weekends? They’re themed promotions happening through March simultaneously at area wineries. The latest? “Dessert First” on Saturday and Sunday. “In anticipation of Valentine’s Day,” the Idaho Wine Commission says, “we invite you to check out these locations for pairings of incredible Idaho wines and ciders with delectable desserts.” Participants include Telaya, Split Rail, Ste. 5. Watch punches fly

Mixed-martial arts action will take over Idaho Central Arena on Friday night at Front Street Fights. Boise native Ricky Steele (7-2) takes on Andres Ponce (5-8) in the main event. It’s one of three pro battles on the card, which also includes four amateur fights. Fists fly starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25-$50 at Ticketmaster.
