What's an eco-friendly mattress, you ask? When it comes to mattresses, eco-friendly refers, typically, to the use of plant-based or sustainable materials to create the mattress, rather than plastic-based materials like vinyl. Avocado and Birch Living are great examples of companies that pursue eco-friendly certifications for their mattresses, some of which are currently on sale.

1. Avocado Green mattress

We tested out Avocado's Green Mattress last year, and loved it for its cooling properties. Our tester noted that the Avocado Green mattress, and many of Avocado's other mattresses, hold just about as many eco-friendly certifications as a mattress can have, including GOTS organic fabric, GOLS organic latex and CertiPUR-US. CertiPUR-US certification means that the mattress comes with limited VOC emissions and the omission of certain chemicals.

The Green sets itself apart from the rest of Avocado's catalog in that contains over 1,400 individual steel coils.
