44-year-old woman taking a break from ‘tough day’ wins huge Michigan lottery prize

A 44-year-old woman said she was having a “tough day” when she decided to take some time to relax.

During that break, she logged into the Michigan Lottery app to play the Daily Spin to Win game, according to a Feb. 1 news release.

“As I was scrolling through the different games, Diamond Payout caught my eye, so I started playing,” Jamila McCaskill, of Detroit, told Michigan Lottery officials. “On only my second spin, the screen lit up and I knew I had won a prize.”

That prize was worth $100,000, according to the release.

“When I saw the prize amount of $100,000, I couldn’t believe it,” McCaskill said. “This is by far the largest prize I have ever won, and it feels amazing!”

She recently went to claim her prize, officials said.

After taxes, she took home $71,750.

McCaskill plans to use her winnings to pay off her home and other bills, according to the Michigan Lottery.
