3 New Untitled Marvel Films Confirmed, But What Could They Be?

Marvel Phase 2 is dead, long live Marvel Phase 3.

Marvel today confirmed further details for the third phase of their ever-expanding Cinematic Universe, revealing that ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ will join ‘Captain America: Civil War’, ‘Doctor Strange’, ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’, ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Thor: Ragnorak’, ‘Black Panther’, ‘Avenger: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2’, ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘Inhumans’ in cinemas over the next four years.

Interestingly enough though, it was also revealed that three untitled Marvel Studios films will also be released soon after on May 1, 2020, July, 2020, and November 6, 2020.

Will these kick start Marvel Phase 4? Or will they continue Phase 3 rolling on? More importantly what could they actually be!?

Obviously, since they’re untitled, we don’t know. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have a good guess. Take a look below to have a look at our predictions.

Chris Evans-less Captain America 4

One of the biggest issues Marvel will have to deal with over the next few years is how they handle their hugely successful characters and franchises once the lead actors decide to leave.

Robert Downey Jr.’s final turn as Iron Man can’t be far away, while Chris Evans’ recent foray into direction means he is probably already thinking about the next step in his career. But will that mean the end for Iron Man and Captain America?

It’s tough to say, because Marvel won’t want to say good-bye to these characters because of just how damn popular they are. Plus if they kill them off and then decide they want them back, they won’t be able to just reboot them because that would mess with the consistency of their Cinematic Universe.

Instead, when Evans and Downey Jr. leave, they could just pass on the technology that Captain America and Iron Man use, the Shield and suits, respectively, to other characters.

Depending on the outcome of ‘Civil War’, this could see Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Falcon or even Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes taking Steve Rogers’ SHIELD and becoming the newest Captain America. Personally, I’d prefer to see Falcon get the part.

It’s something that has happened in the comics, and something that, because of Anthony Mackie’s stupendously charismatic performance of the character so far, we’d all be happy to see on the big-screen too.

Obviously only after we’ve had a substantial amount of time to mourn the departure of Chris Evans though.

Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 or Spider-Man 2

Like any modern day studio Marvel’s financial success is based upon its sequels. And for the most part they’ve also been critical triumphs too, with ‘Iron Man 3’ and ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ regarded as the best editions to their franchises.

So, even though ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’ (May 5, 2017) and the first solo ‘Spider-Man’ film (July 28, 2017) are still both over 18 months away, plans will already be afoot for further tales for the pair.

And why not? ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’s’ $775 million gross means that its sequel should fare quite well upon its release, while the entire point of casting 19-year-old Tom Holland as Peter Parker was to explore the character as he grows older.

These sequels will be coming at some point in the future, and either one, or both, will more than likely fit into the above free spots. It would only take a ‘Fantastic Four’ style flop for Marvel to reconsider.

The Runaways

Obviously Marvel know that the key to keeping audiences truly intrigued in their Cinematic Universe is to constantly add new, fresh, and unique characters to the mix.

Kevin Feige has previously admitted that the stuio’s plan is to introduce something new every year alongside sequels. And over the last few weeks, a female led ‘Blade’ reboot has been suggested, while because of ‘Daredevil’s’ Netflix success it’s even been teased that the character could get a cinematic outing too.

But the more likely choice is ‘The Runaways’, who are a group of teenagers that learn their parents are an evil crime organization known as The Pride, and then discover that they have superhero abilities. What a double whammy. Deciding to be good, they then set out to defeat their parents.

It’s obviously a story that is ripe for cinema, while the success of ‘The Hunger Games’, ‘Maze Runner’, and ‘Divergent’ film franchises means that the young adults genre is piping hot right now too.

Marvel would be silly not to take advantage, which is something that they clearly want to do since they’ve been working on a ‘Runaways’ film since May 2008, with Brian K Vaughan and Drew Pearce having written scripts that ultimately fell by the wayside.

With five years to plan, write, cast, shoot and edit, surely the time is nigh to actually and finally bring ‘The Runaways’ to the big-screen.
