£20k reward offered a year on from shooting of BLM activist Sasha Johnson

A £20,000 reward has been offered for information a year on from the shooting of Black Lives Matter activist Sasha Johnson in south-east London.

Ms Johnson, 28, was hit by a bullet and left with “catastrophic” and permanent injuries when four masked men stormed into a party in Peckham on May 23, 2021. A criminal case against four men accused of the shooting collapsed earlier this year.

In a statement on Thursday, Crimestoppers, an independent charity, said the “substantial” reward would be offered for “any information that leads to the conviction of those responsible” for the attack.

Ms Johnson now requires constant medical attention and struggles to say more than a few words. She is in “terrible pain” as a result of her injuries and her movement is “extremely limited”, police added.

Alexa Loukas, London Regional Manager at the charity, said: “We believe there are people who want to do the right thing for Sasha, but going to the police is not an option.

“Were you there on the night or have you heard anything about what happened? Coming forward is never easy, but if you contact us, you can still do the right thing whilst remaining completely anonymous.

“Before this violent attack, Sasha was a powerful voice who challenged injustice. By using your voice, you can help find justice for Sasha.”

The charity do not ask for personal details and are unable to trace phone numbers or IP addresses.

Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Penney, who leads the investigation, said: “Many people were at that party, including many friends of Sasha, but nearly everyone has been reluctant to come forward.

“I understand people may be scared, but people should search their conscience and do what is right for Sasha, her family and her sons.”

Ms Johnson, who has two young sons, is a founding member of the Taking The Initiative Party and had been a prominent figure in the Black Lives Matter movement, but there was no suggestion that the shooting was targeted.

Speaking to journalists outside New Scotland Yard in February, her mother Ellet Dalling said Ms Johnson was “strong” and would “come and tell the story of who did this to her”.

“We will get justice, and Sasha will come and let us get justice,” she added.
