All the mascots attending March Madness 2017

Most people filling out a March Madness bracket this year will do so using the guidance of experts and oddsmakers, but some will select this year's men's NCAA tournament champion by judging something else completely -- the school's mascot.

Players and coaches may dominate headlines during March Madness, but nothing gets the crowd going with school spirit like an energetic college basketball mascot.

From the Florida Gator to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, each team has a figure that represents them.

Some unique mascots like the Wake Forest Demon Decon are in a league of their own.

But there are a few teams who share the same mascot. For example, there are five teams competing in the tournament with the Wildcats as their school mascot -- Kentucky, Villanova, Arizona, Kansas State and Northwestern.

There are three Eagles (North Carolina Central, Winthrop and Florida Gulf Coast) and one Golden Eagle (Marquette). There are two Bulldogs (Butler and Gonzaga), two Rams (VCU and Rhode Island), two Mountaineers (Mount St. Mary and West Virginia), two Trojans (Troy and USC), two Gamecocks (Jacksonville State and South Carolina), two Aggies (UC Davis and Virginia Tech) and two Gaels (St. Mary's and Iona).
