Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea founded Pacific Standard in 2012, a film production company with a strong emphasis on female protagonists.
The story of the Barbie doll's history comes from the 2010 book "Barbie and Ruth: The Story of the World's Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her," written by Robin Gerber.
It seems that the Barbie movie adaption is a very new project, as the Tracking Board reports that "Pacific Standard is in development with the origin story of the iconic Barbie doll, its company and its creator."
