Quadriplegic man shares amazing first dance with wife
When Lauren Jackson and her husband Joel got married in 2013, Lauren told Joel that when he can walk, she wants him to dance with her. Joel, who has been in a wheelchair since 2009 after a horrific car accident, was finally able to fulfill his wife's request.
After the accident, 26-year-old Joel's head was severed from his spine in an internal decapitation. He lost the ability to speak or move his limbs. Six years later, Lauren has shared a video online of the couple swaying to their wedding song, Edwin McCain's "I'll Be," while Joel suspends from a body weight-support system at a Florida hospital.
Using a computer that Joel uses to articulate his thoughts, the husband described dancing with his wife as "euphoric."

Joel and Lauren first met and dated when they were teenagers in school. Later, they lost touch and Lauren married another man. Lauren and her husband later got divorced, and Joel was involved in the car accident when he was 20 years old.
Joel was in the car with six other people that fateful night. When the car hit a telephone pole, a 15-year-old girl was killed and Joel was thrown from the car. He suffered a coma and a "C1" spinal injury. After the accident, Lauren began to visit Joel and the two rekindled their romance in 2012. The two were married in 2013.
Lauren keeps a blog in which she documents Joel's journey to better health. On the blog, Lauren wrote about her joy at getting to dance with her loving husband. She wrote:
"I don't know if you're like me, but I have photographed (and now videoed) tons of brides and grooms during their first dance. I always wondered what they giggled and smiled about, what the conversation was about. Still to this day I find myself wondering what sweet words they are sharing in that moment, but today, I got to relive that moment again with my groom. We shared our FIRST DANCE again this time on our feet!"
Congrats to the beautiful couple! We wish you a long and happy marriage.
