13 seconds turned into $223,000 and counting for Buffalo children’s hospital

Fans celebrate after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in overtime 42-36 in the AFC Divisional Playoff game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday, Dec. 23, 2022. The Chiefs advance to the AFC Championship Game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

After Twitter account Chiefs Kingdom Memes suggested on Monday that Chiefs fans donate $13 to The Patricia Allen Fund, Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s foundation benefiting John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, members of the Chiefs Kingdom rallied in a big way.

Brayton Wilson, a reporter with WBEN in Buffalo, reached out to Allegra Jaros, the hospital’s president, who said that as of 2 p.m., they received more than $223,000 from over 12,000 donors.

Before that, the hospital tweeted that they received $178,000 from 9,800 donors in 24 hours from Kansas City fans.

While the loss will stick with Bills’ fans until next season, the gesture from Chiefs fans will live with them for a lifetime.
