12-year-old attending camp with church group is found dead in pool, PA officials say

A 12-year-old boy was found dead in a swimming pool just hours after he was reported missing from a Pennsylvania campground, officials say.

Pay Kahi was reported missing from Summit Grove Camp in New Freedom after he was last seen around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29. Around 2 a.m. Thursday, the boy was found dead in a swimming pool at the campground, the York County Coroner said.

The child’s family has been notified, according to the coroner.

It’s unclear how the boy ended up in the pool. The coroner said additional details will be released Thursday.

When the summer camp announced the 12-year-old was missing, it said he was visiting with his church youth group. The group from Lancaster County included 40 kids and six adults, according to WPMT.

The church group was not a part of Summit Grove’s day camp. Summit Grove is a 43-acre property located between Baltimore, Maryland, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The camp will be closed on Thursday “based on recommendations from the police/rescue authorities,” Summit Grove announced on social media.
