The best bedroom storage makes light work of getting dressed with everything you need at hand from head to toe – or hat to shoes, to be precise.

Whether you’re sharing wardrobe space with your other half, or you’re looking for a furniture piece with integrated drawers for accessories, the key to getting organised is to think carefully about your sartorial storage needs.

Hanging space is an important factor – especially if you have an enviable collection of full length dresses, so think about your closet’s internal height.

Some wardrobes offer the versatility of changing up the interiors, whether you’re after split level hanging rails or extra shelving for those neatly folded sweaters.

A wardrobe can be an imposing presence in the bedroom so if you’re lacking in square footage, consider a design that won’t overwhelm the space.

Mirrored wardrobes work wonderfully here, giving the illusion of roominess, while a closet that’s elevated off the floor with tapered legs can make a big difference too.

Our roundup comprises a variety of standalone wardrobes, chosen for their all-important functionality alongside their aesthetic appeal, and it includes traditional and contemporary styles to suit different tastes, and of course, budgets.

Oak Furnitureland parquet brushed and glazed solid oak double wardrobe: £619.99, Oak Furnitureland

Dimensions: W97.5cm x H193cm x D65cm

From flooring to furniture pieces, parquet offers a rich texture that highlights the beauty of natural wood, and we loved this vertical version in our bedroom. The classic block pattern evokes school libraries and drawing rooms of old – a look you can easily achieve here without forking out for a whole new floor. Crafted from solid oak, the wardrobe is a sturdy piece that sits on angled and tapered mid-century style legs, awarding it a light, floating feel despite its heft. This one offers ample hanging space with a handy drawer underneath. Shrewd attention to detail means the parquet pattern is not interrupted and the doors match up perfectly.

We’ve spotted a few locker-style furniture pieces of late, from living room cabinets to bedside tables, and we’re loving the clean-lined aesthetic. Embrace the industrial trend fully with a locker-style wardrobe that keeps the look sleek, chic and contemporary in the bedroom. With its smooth sliding doors with recessed handles, the Elona would be utterly utilitarian in style were it not for those mid-century copper hairpin legs – a lovely touch, and a masterclass in understated glamour. The closet is made from engineered wood that’s painted a soft grey to give the effect of metal, but of course, this one stays firmly in the warm and wooden bedroom furniture camp.
