UPDATE 1-Greek Jan-April primary budget deficit lower than targeted

(Adds detail, background)

ATHENS, May 16 (Reuters) - Greece's central government reported a primary budget deficit of 811 million euros ($845.95 million) in the four months to April, lower than targeted, thanks to higher revenues, finance ministry data showed on Monday.

The government had targeted a primary budget gap - which excludes debt-servicing costs - of 2.45 billion euros for the January - April period.

The primary budget balance excludes social security and local administration budgets. Based on revised government projections, the deficit is expected to shrink to 2.0% of gross domestic product this year from 7.3% of GDP in 2021.

Budget revenues came in at 19.36 billion euros, higher than a target of 18.25 billion euros. Spending reached 21.0 billion euros and was 958 million euros lower than a government target, the data showed.

Greece's economic rebound from the pandemic slowed in the final quarter last year. For the full year, the economy grew by 8.3% after a sharp downturn in 2020. ($1 = 0.9587 euros) (Reporting by Lefteris Papadimas; Editing by Angus MacSwan)
