What's The Story

An ambitious franchise restart in the tradition of Batman Begins and Casino Royale, this intergalactic adventure centers around the meeting of two wet-behind-the-ears Starfleet recruits: half-Vulcan Spock and all-American rebel James T. Kirk. Thrown together on a perilous mission, they must settle their differences to defeat a nefarious time-travelling Romulan. Amid explosions, fistfights, and faster-than-light travel, we witness the beginnings of one of the most famous friendships in TV and movie history.

Three Good Reasons

  • 1The film was designed to appeal to audiences not familiar with Star Trek, so it's fair game for anyone who likes upbeat adventure, great characters, and gorgeous special effects.
  • 2Die-hard fans won't go wanting either. Not only will they get to revisit dear old friends in shiny new packaging, but they'll get to see Trek veteran Leonard Nimoy as Spock one last time.
  • 3Gene Roddenberry would want you to go. The creator of Star Trek expressed hope that one day someone would recreate a bigger and better version of the universe he invented. Enter director J. J. Abrams.

Bet You Didn't Know

Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the wife of Star Trek's creator, Gene, is the only actor to have appeared in every iteration of the franchise on TV and in the movies, including this one, as the voice of the ship's computer. She recorded her lines for the movie only weeks before her her death in December of last year. More about Star Trek on Yahoo! Movies
