Comic-Con 2012: Biggest movie panels and stars

The biggest events at Comic-Con nowadays are the star-studded movie panels. As masses of attendees descend upon the annual mega-conference, starting Thursday in San Diego, CA, final preparations are being made for some of the gathering's most buzz-worthy film panels to date. Here are the top movies to look out for from this year's Comic-Con:

'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2'

Who Will Be There: Self-proclaimed "Twi-hards" and LOTS of them.  Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and filmmakers will be answering questions, sharing extra juicy tidbits, and are rumored to have something extra special up their sleeve to commemorate the final "Twilight" installment.

What To Look For: A sneak peek of "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" will be shown along with exclusive footage from the upcoming film.

Panel time: Thursday, 12:45 p.m.

The Hobbit
The Hobbit

'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'

Who Will Be There: We hear Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis and director Peter Jackson will be on hand, but the rest remains a bit of a mystery.

What To Look For: Among the most-anticipated panels, with many secrets yet to be revealed, "Hobbit"-watchers thirst for news from Middle Earth should be sufficiently quenched: Wood has hinted at something big for Saturday's event and extended clips are expected to be shown.

Panel time: Friday, 4:35 p.m.

Who Will Be There: While we're pretty confident he will be on the panel -- director Guillermo del Toro is set to sign autographs at the film's Legendary Pictures booth on Friday. Cross your fingers for star appearances from Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Hunnam and/or others in the film.

What To Look For: Another top secret project from Warner Bros., look for carefully orchestrated teasers of this robot battle flick. An exclusive look at costumes will be on display, signifying more clues to this highly highly anticipated film by del Toro ("Hellboy," "Pan's Labryrinth").

'Man Of Steel'

Who Will Be There: Director Zack Snyder ("300," "Watchmen") better be there — hopefully along with other cast members Amy Adams, Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe and more (though this panel isn't confirmed).

What To Look For: Details on how this version of the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" -- first made into a film in 1990, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger — is in its own league. And, oh yeah, discussion of the gnarly girl-on-girl fight scene between Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale.
