OK, But Not Great Overall

This movie will entertain children ages 5 to 10, in large part due to the incredible animation, but it does not have a very strong, cohesive story line throughout. It starts out well enough but then gets rather muddled in the middle. There's lots of fighting and action at this point, but it's not very clear about what exactly is going on. Kids will enjoy it though.
The only real problem I have with it is that one of the characters (Madonna's character)has a huge attitude problem and treats everyone like dirt. There are also references to "butts" a number of times, and a song plays in the background at one point in which the chorus is "I think you're hot, hot, hot." Do young children really need to hear lyrics like that in a family movie? And do they really need to have their attention drawn to the characters' butts? Furthermore, do kids really need to see one more rude, smart-mouthed character on film to emulate? The bad attitude exhibited by one of the main characters just reinforces disrespectful behaviors at home and school. Kids think it's cool because the characters they see on t.v. and the movies are doing it. So disconcerting. This movie by far isn't the worst I've seen in this respect, but as a parent and a teacher I am very bothered by the brainwashing of our children to behave inappropriately no matter how small the inference.
Hollywood, please make more family movies without smart-mouthed characters and potty humor. Rise above it! |
