I'm 36 years old and went to see this film. I loved every minute of it. It has a great balance of live action and animation. The animation (and I am so thrilled that I get to finally say this) was of high quality. They did a great job on the animation. I thought the story was original. I loved the characters. Madonna was perfect as the Princess. David Bowie was outstanding as the Evil M. Of course, the little boy who also played in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory was absolutely the perfect casting choice for this part. I remember when I was a kid and wishing that there were other beings in the backyard to have adventures with. I remember that feeling that I had after seeing Robin Williams as Popeye on the big screen and how badly I wanted to be him. This movie brought back those feelings. It really did. It's a great movie. It is very cleanly done and demonstrates wonderful lessons for kids (and adults). It sort of reminded me a little of The Labyrinth or Dark Crystal from back in the 80s. It was such a great enjoyment and pleasure to watch. I will definitely own it on DVD when it comes out. I'm probably one of the more critical movie goers in that it really has to impress me in order for me to enjoy it so I have to say that the critics giving this movie way too low of a score because it deserves much higher ratings. The action is fun. The sequences are so beautifully done. I think it has an ending that doesn't really leave any opened questions. I didn't walk away from this film thinking that the story was un-ended or filled with holes in it. I was satisfied with every aspect of the film. Excellent cast of actors. Great story. Beautiful and flawless animation (believe me, that is saying something coming from me because not only am I a huge critic of what is quality animation but I am a graphic designer for a living). You will not be disappointed with the film. It's worth the money in the theater to see it. In fact, you and your kids will enjoy it even more on the big screen. I can't imagine anyone not liking this film. To me, I hope they make a sequel like they did with Shrek but who knows.
