Danny DeVito will direct
Oscar-nominated "Atonement" actress Saoirse Ronan in the family
adventure "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle."
The 19th century-set tale centers on a young girl who joins
in a shipboard rebellion. Morgan Freeman and Pierce Brosnan
also star.
DeVito, who will not appear onscreen, has written the
screenplay based on the novel by the author who writes under
the name Avi. Filming is set to begin in September.
Ronan will next be seen in "City of Ember" and "The Lovely
Bones." Freeman appears in "Wanted" and the Friday release "The
Dark Knight." Brosnan will be seen in "Mamma Mia!" which also
opens Friday.
DeVito's last feature outing was the 2003 comedy "Duplex,"
which starred Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore.
