Kees is an awkward young man whose insane mother has robbed him of a sense of his own past, When his father died, his mother destroyed all the famil.'s photos, and hence Kees' own memories. When he invents a girlfriend to match a photo in his wallet, people at work begin to treat him more kindly. So he begins to steal more family photographs, inventing a more and more complex persona for himself.
