In a largely Latino neighborhood, north of Harlem, an aspiring comicbook artist named Carlos wants to draw cartoons rather than go into the family grocery store business--much to the disappointment of his traditionalist immigrant father. However, when his dad is shot by a robber, he must take over the store's operations. It is through this that Carlos examines old wounds and the American dream.
