It's New Years Eve, and life is at its lowest for aspiring actor-writer James "Jimmy" Zoole: his best friend died in September; his apartment has been robbed twice since October; his half-finished first novel was among those items stolen; his precious cat Tennessee is at the veterinarian with a bladder infection; and his one-man-show (Hamlet performed with hand puppets) has just been cancelled. As if things couldnât get worse, he discovers that his girlfriend Kate is moving out of their apartment and in with her new boyfriend, the handsome and successful Fred Gable. The breakup sends Jimmy into a mini-nervous breakdown--he has clearly hit rock bottom. Or has he? As he faces his empty apartment--and empty life--he discovers that the burglar, Eddie Tesoro, has returned for a third time. They struggle violently, and Jimmy knocks Eddie unconscious. Rather than calling the police, he hog-ties Eddie to the kitchen sink--heâs going to torment someone else for a change! Yet Eddie isn't exactly what Jimmy expects--for one thing, heâs gay, and for another, he has a kid--and they both soon discover they have more in common than they would have thought.
