When Janet and Ned Beindorf decided to separate, they tried to break it to their kids gently. Unfortunately for them, their teenage son Grover and 10-year-old daughter Stacey have come up with a unique way of coping with the news. Coaxing their parents into the basement, Grover nails the door shut, telling his parents that they can come out--as soon as they resolve their problems. Grover's neighborhood friends think his idea of parental "house arrest" is so cool that they lure their own parents into the Beindorf basement. Now, the seven parents find themselves unlikely hostages as they try to get their respective acts together. But in the meantime, the children rule the roost.
