What if the trailer for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ were honest?

In a world where movie trailers told the truth about the films they were trying to advertise... not very many people would actually go see major Hollywood releases.

Continuing their excellent "Honest Trailers" series (in which a stereotypically gravelly voiceover points out a movie's many flaws, gaffes, and plot holes), the folks over at Screen Junkies finally weighed on Christopher Nolan's somewhat divisive conclusion to his Batman trilogy with a hilariously spot-on assessment of "The Dark Knight Rises." Among the obvious points made by this truth-telling trailer are the fact that the Caped Crusader has only 33 minutes of screen time in the nearly three hour film, that the plans and schemes of Batman's on-screen foes make absolutely no sense, and that Bruce Wayne couldn't have possibly recovered from a broken back in only three months without professional medical care.

Joining the anonymous deep voiced trailer questioner this time out are Mike Stoklasa and Jay Bauman of Red Letter Media and "Phantom Menace" 70-minute review fame, who add to the torrent of "whys" and "whats." Stoklasa and Bauman have been doing this sort of film analysis/thoughtful evisceration for a few years now, so a collaboration between Screen Junkies and RLM was only a matter of time. In just under five minutes, the tag team completely picks apart almost everything that was wrong with "The Dark Knight Rises," pointing out the film's shortcomings so ruthlessly and so effectively that even the film's most ardent defenders -- heck, even director Christopher Nolan -- would have a hard time disputing their reasoning.

"The Dark Knight Rises" is out on Blu-ray and DVD now.
