Top 10 Press Conference Moments from TIFF 2014

Though the films and red carpet appearances get most of the attention at the Toronto International Film Festival, the press conferences that take place every day are always good for a laugh -- and, sometimes, even a cringe or two. Here are the best moments from this year's press TIFF conferences:

Al Pacino Spills

"Hello! I'm out of here!" Al Pacino's famously booming voice split the air at the "Manglehorn" press conference when he accidentally spilled co-star Holly Hunter's water. He then proceeded to clean it up, before co-star Harmony Korine knocked over another glass, sending Pacino off on a little jig. "They're destroying the press conference!" he yelled. "They just threw stuff all over the place!"

Benedict Cumberbatch Complains

He is one of the most beloved stars in Hollywood right now, but even Benedict Cumberbatch has a breaking point. When asked at the press conference for "The Imitation Game," in which he plays logician Alan Turing, why he is so often cast as a genius (he has also played Stephen Hawking and Julian Assange), the British thesp reportedly growled.

“It’s very flattering, but one can only aspire to the level of intelligence of characters I’m lucky enough to play," he said. "I get asked that quite a lot, and I’m really tired of it.”

She may be engaged to Justin Theroux, but Jennifer Aniston seemed ready to pick up with her "Cake" director Daniel Barnz at the film's press conference. “I’ve been staring at Jen’s face for months now – one of the most beautiful women in the world – without a stitch of makeup on,” he said, “but because of the beauty that comes from the inside, I’ve never seen you more beautiful.” To this, Aniston responded, “Let’s get married."

Jennifer Garner Is a Luddite

Jennifer Garner is not much for computers. She made the confession at the press conference for her TIFF film "Men, Women & Children," about the disconnect between kids and adults today. At one point she asked, "Is it Tinder or Tumblr?" and admitted she finds her latest film "properly horrifying" because no one knows what they're doing when it comes to technology. Especially her.

Bill Murray Is Bill Murray

At the press conference for "St. Vincent," nothing was sacred and, as usual, star Bill Murray had all the best lines, including what he said about his "Ghostbusters"character being based on his grandfather. "He had false teeth on the bottom and he'd pop them out at little babies and make them cry and stuff," he said. But the real laugh came when he revealed how the film affected him financially. "'Ghostbusters' paid for my children's college education," Murray said of his six kids. "Which means they can flunk out that much earlier than if they'd paid their own way."

Denzel Washington Does Not Get Action

At the press conference for his latest action film, "The Equalizer," one of the most famous action stars in the world claimed he was unfamiliar with the genre. "I don’t know what an action film is,” Washington said. “I don’t even know if I made one.”

Here are some examples, Denzel, which you might know considering you were in them: "Crimson Tide," "The Siege," "Man On Fire," "Déjà Vu," "The Book of Eli," and "Unstoppable."

Jane Fonda Is Lively

The press conference for "This Is Where I Leave You" was all about iconi star Jane Fonda. And the 76-year-old actress really delivered when she was asked about  working with actors who are junior to her. “I have no choice,” she said. “Most actors my age are dead.” At the same press conference, co-star Jason Bateman admitted that during Fonda's audition she made him "cry like a baby" -- now we know why.

John Cusack Has 'Giant' Thoughts

Andre the Giant inspired John Cusack to have an epiphany about Hollywood back in the '80s. At the press conference for David Cronenberg's "Maps to the Stars," the actor said he saw the wrestler/actor at the Chateau Marmont wearing a satin jacket with the word "hell" on the back.  “I thought, ‘All right, this is what this is going to be,’” he said of Hollywood, “You have no f---ing idea what you’re getting into…But it can be a really toxic place. It’s so predatory and people are so afraid. It’s comical, but it can be quite vicious.”

Mark Ruffalo + Channing Tatum 4Ever

The "Foxcatcher" press conference turned into a love-in between stars Mark Ruffalo and Channing Tatum, who play brothers in the film. "It’s very very easy to be hugged by Mark,” Tatum said of their wrestling scenes. “He’s very very lovable and you just feel safe." He compared Ruffalo to his own sister, while Ruffalo compared Tatum to his late brother, Scott.  “I lost my brother early… so it was a nice momentary stand-in,” he said. “I love Channing." Aww!

Robert Downey Jr. Times Three

Robert Downey Jr. wouldn't be Robert Downey Jr. without some kind of innuendo. “It was really a threesome with the director,” he said of his relationship with co-star Vera Farmiga at the press conference for their film, "The Judge." “It became this three-headed relationship, two of whom were free to make love whenever they wanted to.”
