TIFF 2012 up-and-comers: Ezra Miller from ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’

For angsty teens waiting with bated breath for Stephen Chbosky's film adaptation of his novel "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," it must be a little strange to see the film's stars glammed up, signing autographs, and generally being the popular It-Crowd of the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. They may play wallflowers in the movie, but in real life, they're anything but.

And that especially goes for one of the film's main stars, Ezra Miller. The 20-year-old actor has only been acting since 2008, but already is making quite a splash in the movie industry. He received plenty of buzz at TIFF 2011 for his role as the troubled titular Kevin in "We Need to Talk About Kevin" opposite Tilda Swinton, and a small but memorable role in David Duchovny's HBO hit "Californication" helped put him on the map, too. But despite his success, Miller refuses to let that overshadow his unique personality -- and that's most clear in his quirky wardrobe choices.

Many fans excited for what Miller's "Wallflowers" co-stars Emma Watson and Nina Dobrev would wear for the red carpet at TIFF 2012. Watson showed off her mature-yet edgy style in a mini from Canadian designer Erdem Moralioglu and Dobrev was a vision of elegance in a Monique Lhuillier gown. But, in our opinion, it was Miller who ended up stealing the show!

Miller can sometimes frighten his fellow red carpet-goers with his off-the-wall style, he really pulled back for the TIFF premiere (and we're not only talking about his hair).

His bright red vest and maroon velvet jacket, in theory, should be terrible. But somehow, by pairing them with a white button-down and silvery-blue tie, Miller achieves an artsy look without coming off as completely disheveled or out of his mind. His facial hair gives his maturity beyond his 20 years, and you can't help but think that this outfit screams "him." And after coming out as unabashedly queer in Out magazine this year, it's clear Miller would never be anything but himself.

If his star continues to rise as it has so far, Miller might not be a wallflower for long. Regardless, we think Ezra Miller will always be a man that "oddballs," "freaks," and pretty much anyone else can get behind.

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" will be released in theatres on Sept. 20.
