Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel: Two Canadians versus “The Apocalypse”

Just after the release of 2006's "Knocked Up," co-stars (and fellow Canadians) Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel starred in a mock trailer for a film called "Jay and Seth versus The Apocalypse." Rogen and Baruchel played fictional versions of themselves in the post-apocalyptic comedy trailer that follows the pair's hilarious struggles to survive not only the end of the world, but also each other.

The half-joking trailer seemed to indicate that audiences would see a feature-length version of "Jay and Seth versus The Apocalypse" at some point, but not a peep has been heard since 2007.

But yesterday, Entertainment Weekly reported that "The Apocalypse," a big-budget version of the trailer directed by Rogen and "Knocked Up" co-writer Evan Goldberg, will start filming in New Orleans in the Spring. In this full-length version, Rogen and Baruchel will spend the film holed up in actor James Franco's mansion during some sort of world-ending event. There are probably worse places to spend your final hours.

The 'apoc-com' (it's a new genre! See: "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World") will also feature comedic heavyweights Danny McBride ("Eastbound and Down"), Craig Robinson ("Hot Tub Time Machine") and, naturally, James Franco ("Pineapple Express"), who will all reportedly play versions of themselves. Given the track record of this comedy crew audiences can also expect plenty of random cameos from other major stars.

Baruchel can next be seen in the hockey comedy "Goon," out this week. He co-stars in the film and also co-wrote the film with Goldberg.
