Joseph Gordon-Levitt becomes Bruce Willis for ‘Looper’

When it was announced that actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt would play a younger version of Bruce Willis's character in the time-travel film "Looper," many people were left scratching their heads. The "Die Hard" star and "Inception" point man don't really resemble one another, so the filmmakers seemed to have their work cut out for them.

So, how exactly do you make the long-haired kid from "3rd Rock From the Sun" look like the balding dude from "Moonlighting"? The answer is prosthetics -- and Collider has the first pictures of the results. By applying a fake chin, nose, and eyebrows to Gordon-Levitt's face, you get an effect that is quite uncanny and, quite frankly, a little creepy.

"Looper" reteams JGL with "Brick" director Rian Johnson. Described as a "future noir" in the vein of "Blade Runner," the film follows a hit man named Joe (Gordon-Levitt) in the year 2042 who has been hired by the mob of 2072 to kill people sent back using black-market time-travel technology. Concrete shoes are so 1999. Want to get rid of someone? Use a time machine!

The kicker comes when one of Joe's targets sent from the future turns out to be his future self (Willis). Time-travel movies being what they are, things obviously get complicated from there.

We don't know what will be more shocking for Gordon-Levitt's character: the fact that his future self has been sent back in time to be killed by his younger self, or that future Joe has lost so much hair. There's bound to be a joke about that in the movie somewhere.

A trailer for "Looper" debuted at WonderCon in Chicago over the weekend, so expect to see that online or in theatres soon. "Looper" is set for a September 28 release.
