‘John Dies at the End’ gets a weird new trailer
Did someone order a meat monster? Just in time for Halloween, a weird and wacky new trailer for the horror comedy "John Dies at the End" has arrived online.
Based on author David Wong's web serial-turned-novel and directed by Don Coscarelli (creator of the "Phantasm" series and the cult "Elvis versus the Mummy" flick "Bubba Ho-tep"), "John Dies at the End" follows two 20-something dropouts who inadvertently fight an inter-dimensional invasion with the help of a reality-altering drug called "soy sauce." And yes, the movie looks just as strange as it sounds on paper.

Starring newcomers Chase Williamson and Rob Mayes as slackers David and John, the twisted, funny film features a solid supporting cast that is sure to set genre fans' hearts aflutter, including Paul Giamatti ("Cosmopolis"), actor/contortionist Doug Jones ("Hellboy, "Pan's Labyrinth"), and cult icon Clancy Brown ("Highlander," "Cowboys & Aliens").
While the film's potentially spoileriffic title doesn't bode particularly well for Mayes' character, the fact that extra dimensions are a key plot point of "John Dies at the End" likely means that death might not be so permanent in this fictional world. Still, the ominous last line of the film's official synopsis doesn't paint a very rosy picture for its heroes, or for the human race: "Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can't."

"John Dies at the End" was well-received by both audiences and critics at Sundance, SXSW, and the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year. The movie was part of TIFF's Midnight Madness programme, an annual late-night film series intended to highlight the best in genre cinema from around the world. If you missed the movie on the festival circuit, "John Dies at the End" will be released on iTunes on Dec. 27 and in theatres on Jan. 25, 2013.
