Internet users invent accurate titles for Oscar-nominated movies

Now that the 2012 Academy Award nominations have been announced and the selected films have safely assured their place in respectable movie history, it’s apparently time to start calling out the nominees -- particularly those in the running for Best Picture -- on some of their obvious shortcomings. “Les Misérables,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Life of Pi,” “Lincoln,” “Silver Linings Playbook”: No movie is safe from snarky geeks on the Internet!

Remixing the original movie posters, College Humor created a list that bestows more accurate titles on many of the nominated films, while The Shiznit.co.uk created a similar list asking the question, “What if 2013's Oscar-nominated movie posters told the truth?” The mock posters attempt to boil the films down into exactly what you need to know about them going into the Oscars, and what they may or may not have done wrong as movies. The results are not only very good examples of photo manipulation, but they’re pretty funny to boot.

Sure, there's more to "Life of Pi" than just the CGI, but they really hit the nail on the head with many of these posters -- particularly Ben Affleck's "Argo." The spy thriller has been the subject of a great deal of criticism outside of the United States for the way that it portrayed (some say minimized) Canada's pivotal role in the rescue of six American diplomats.

The 85th annual Academy Awards happen on Feb. 24, 2013.
