The 10 best answers from Tom Hanks’s Reddit AMA

As the popularity and influence of social news site Reddit has increased, AMAs (Ask Me Anything) have become an important part of Hollywood marketing campaigns. Reddit is one of the most visited sites on the internet and is extremely popular with the coveted 18-35 demographic, so making a good impression with one of these online question and answer sessions can really get people talking about a film.

The latest A-lister to jump on the AMA bandwagon is “Captain Phillips” star Tom Hanks. The Oscar-winning actor fielded questions of all sorts for a few hours on Monday and his answers were surprisingly entertaining and insightful.

“I'm that guy in movies that sometimes can be seen more than once,” Hanks wrote in his introduction. “In that I abhor self-promotion, I'll leave it to you guys to figure out what movies those are (hint: my next movie comes out October 11).”

Hanks’ opinion of his Reddit AMA experience:

Redditors have of a reputation as grumpy basement dwellers who can be hostile to outsiders. That’s a generalization that’s pretty far from the truth, but the online community is usually pretty hard lot to win over. Hanks’s lively AMA seems to have succeeded where other actors (most infamously Woody Harrelson) have failed. He’s definitely set a high bar for other big stars to follow when it comes to interacting with Reddit.

“Captain Phillips” hits theatres on October 11.
