Meryl Streep skips ‘August: Osage County’ premiere over ‘illness’
Not even the Iron Lady is made of steel. Meryl Streep was forced to skip the premiere of her Toronto International Film Festival feature "August: Osage County" on Monday because she was sick.
"Bad news #TIFF13'ers: Meryl Streep will not be attending tonight's premiere of August: Osage County due to illness," the festival tweeted on Monday afternoon.
But the 64-year-old Oscar winner's fans took it in stride, with one tweeting the actress had "Streep Throat" and another announcing she had started a "prayer circle" in the rush line for Streep's film. "Please bring us Meryl!" Tricia Silva tweeted.
Despite the icon's absence, her co-stars showed up to the Roy Thomson Hall premiere in full force, including Julia Roberts, Abigail Breslin, Juliette Lewis and Ewan McGregor.
But even Roberts felt she couldn't hold a candle to Streep.
"Story of our lives, keeping up with Meryl," Roberts said during the Tuesday press conference for "August: Osage County," adding, "To work with Meryl Streep is a dream come true for anyone."
Seeing her in the flesh would no doubt have been a dream come true for her fans. Unfortunately, they will have to wait until next time.
