5 Ex Celeb Couples That Might Bump Into Each Other at the Toronto Film Fest
Are stars really just like us? Is it awkward for a celeb if he or she runs into an ex?
More than a few famous A-list faces are attending the Toronto International Film Festival this year, which kicks off on September 5. And it's not uncommon for an actor to fall for a movie co-star, so the likelihood of former flames bumping into each other at some point during the festival will be pretty high when Hollywood begins to descend upon Toronto tomorrow.
Here are five pairs of famous exes to watch out for as celebs flock to TIFF this year (we've ranked them in order from "Could Be Really, Really Awkward" to "Probably Not That Bad"):
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt
After their divorce was finalized in 2006, Brad and Jen have only had one very public run in (that we know about): When Aniston presented at the Oscars in 2009 in front of Brangelina. However, both Brad and Jen have films premiering at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. Pitt stars in Steve McQueen's "12 Years a Slave" while Jen's film "Life of Crime" will close the festival on September 14. Unless Brad decides to stick around for that (which wouldn't be uncomfortable at all), it's not very likely these two will collide. Jen probably won't have to worry about Angelina Jolie, either since she is busy directing "Unbroken."
Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal
Reese (who is promoting "Devil's Knot" at TIFF) and Jake — who is premiering two films, "Prisoners" and "Enemy" — dated after meeting on the set of "Rendition" in 2007 before eventually breaking up in November 2009. Although their split wasn't dramatic, we assume it would still be a little awkward if these two bumped into one another. But we doubt Reese is sweating a potential Jake sighting too much considering she's happily married to Jim Toth. We also wouldn't be surprised if Jake's Sports Illustrated model girlfriend Alyssa Miller makes the trip with him, you know, just in case.
Julia Roberts and Liam Neeson
Remember when Julia Roberts and Liam Neeson dated? In case you need a refresher, Julia started seeing Liam at the age of 19 (he was 35) after meeting on the set of "Satisfaction" in 1987. The couple even reportedly moved in together before breaking up the following year. Julia will be at TIFF for "August: Osage County" while Liam is expected to attend the premiere of his film "Third Person." Both Julia and Liam are in the $20 million per movie club so we doubt these two would sweat it if they end up rubbing rub elbows at TIFF.
Scarlett Johansson and Jared Leto
Scarlett has two films — "Under the Skin" and "Don Jon" — at TIFF, while Jared Leto will be in Toronto with "Dallas Buyers Club." These two are definitely friendly exes. Johansson and Leto broke up in 2004, but were spotted getting cozy again in 2012 at the Democratic National Convention. However, a rep for the actress called a photo of the two holding hands "innocent" adding that they are neighbors and remained friends. Since the 28-year-old actress is engaged, we doubt much could burst her happiness bubble right now.
Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey
There is definitely no awkward blood between these two. Bullock, who will be on hand for a special screening of her film "Gravity," spoke to Cosmopolitan in 2003 about how easy it was to stay friends with Matthew after their short-lived relationship in the '90s. "It’s the work we both put in. There’s a great amount of respect and love. I feel very cared for by Matthew," she said. "No matter where he is in his life or where I am in mine — he could be married — I know we would stay close." Sandy is true to her word! She has been photographed having play dates with McConaughey's wife Camila plenty of times. Matthew, whose highly anticipated film "Dallas Buyers Club" will premiere at TIFF, also invited Sandra and her son, Louis, to his son Levi's 5th birthday party in July.
