Harrison Ford’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ Clip Encapsulates Everything’s That Wrong With Him in 60 Seconds
Back in November, we went long on all the problems we have with Harrison Ford, not least of which is his endless-grump routine that's very rarely funny. (Unless Ford's going to be David Letterman's sidekick after Paul Shaffer retires, we don't see much future in it for him.) But we needn't have bothered with all those words. Just watch the above clip from "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" That condenses it all quite nicely.
It's actually not a bad premise. Ford's on the phone talking to his agent about "Air Force One 2" -- har har, get it? -- when he runs into his ol' pal Chewbacca, and apparently there's unresolved tension between them.
Anybody who knows Ford's long-running contempt for "Star Wars" will appreciate the gist of the bit, and hearing him refer to his "Cowboys & Aliens" co-star Daniel Craig as "my Wookiee bitch" is funny. But even when the minute-long clip starts to get good near the end -- apparently, Chewie slept with Ford's wife -- it just peters out. In 2011, Harrison Ford is making Wookiee sex jokes. And not well either. Partly because he doesn't really care. You can see it in his face. He wants to be back on his cattle ranch in the middle of nowhere. But he's gotta promote his movie, so here he is. It's almost like he expects us to be grateful for the pleasure of his company. That's why it's hard to root for "Cowboys & Aliens" as his comeback vehicle: The guy really doesn't want to come back. So why should we care?
