Kate Winslet’s ‘Titanic 3D’ premiere appearance makes up for missing the 1997 premiere

After being told to never let go, Kate Winslet's tenacity has paid off: She finally got her "Titanic" premiere.

The 36-year-old actress sparkled like the heart of the ocean in her Jenny Packham gown yesterday at the world premiere of "Titanic 3D" in London, 15 years after missing the original premiere of the epic romance.

James Cameron's 1997 film, in which Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio played star-crossed lovers aboard the Titanic, is set to be re-released in theaters April 4 to coincide with the centenary of the infamous "unsinkable" ship, which set sail April 10, 1912.

But the release could also be celebrated as a second chance for Winslet, who missed the 1997 premiere to attend the London funeral of her ex-boyfriend, British screenwriter Stephen Tredre.

As bad luck would have it, the British star also missed the movie's London premiere after coming down with dysentery while filming "Hideous Kinky" in Morocco.

This time around, it was co-star DiCaprio who was conspicuously absent from the proceedings. The A-list actor is reportedly filming Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" in Louisiana.

But perhaps his absence was for the best. According to Winslet, she wasn't in top form in the film that made her a household name in Hollywood.

"My American accent was bad!" she admitted to the U.K. Mirror.
