Rebel Wilson in 'Pitch Perfect' (Photo: Universal Pictures)She receives the lion's share of laughs as "Fat Amy" in the ensemble comedy "Pitch Perfect," about a bunch of weirdo college girls bent on becoming a cappella champions (opening wide this weekend).
But you may not yet know a whole lot about 26-year-old rising star Rebel Wilson, who appears in a whopping six big screen films out this year alone, including, "Bachelorette," "Ice Age: Continental Drift" and "What to Expect When You're Expecting."
Her breakout role was as one of Kristen Wiig's (Annie's) couch potato, foreign roommates in "Bridesmaids" last year. As Brynn, Wilson delivered one of the popular film's most unforgettable lines: "At first I did not know it was your diary, I thought it was a very sad handwritten book."

Incidentally, Wilson is housemates in real life with her other "Bridesmaids" roommate Matt Lucas, who played Gil in the film. The two have upset neighbors with incessant renditions of show tunes. "We got a letter in the mailbox... and so it's a little bit disturbing because it's anonymous for a start," Wilson recently told Conan O'Brien [via HuffPost]. "We've been mixing it up a bit, we do 'Oklahoma,' 'Little Shop of Horrors,' 'Fiddler on the Roof.' The neighbors do not enjoy it."
Wilson, who was born and raised in Sydney, got her start on Australian television. She even did some singing on one of the TV shows, she recently told Yahoo! Movies, which prepped her for her "Pitch Perfect" experience. (All cast members really do sing their own parts -- even the few with no singing experience, like Adam DeVine from Comedy Central's "Workaholics," on which Wilson has also appeared.)
Wilson is also a standup comedienne and seems to be winning Hollywood over with her scene-stealing ad-libs. "I love it when the director says, 'Rebel, just do whatever you want.' I'm, like, 'Yes!'" she told me recently with smiles and double fist pumps.
One person who has taken notice of Wilson's talent is Lady Gaga, who tweeted earlier this week that she is a "HUGE" fan of Rebel's and that she almost "peed [her] pants" after seeing Wilson on Jay Leno literally kicking her heels off as she spoofed Gaga's song "Edge of Glory."

Before you start thinking Wilson is like her hilariously loafing, lazy characters, think again. Wilson was an overachiever in high school -- when she initially intended to specialize in mathematics. She went to study law and theater arts at the University of New South Wales and also spent a year in South Africa as a youth ambassador for Australia. There, she reportedly contracted malaria, and, according to her bio on IMDb.com, she experienced hallucinations of herself winning an Oscar. Apparently that's what inspired her to pursue acting full time.
Something tells me her funny flying burrito scene from "Pitch Perfect" won't put her in Oscar contention this year, but definitely keep an eye on this one.
