Did Amber Tamblyn out-drink Quentin Tarantino for her ‘Django Unchained’ cameo?

If you blinked during "Django Unchained" you may have missed it: "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" star Amber Tamblyn had a cameo in Quentin Tarantino's latest gunslinger film. But it's the story of how she got the role -- along with a part for her real-life dad -- that's perhaps more entertaining.

The 29-year-old actress says she won the small role as Daughter of a Son of a Gunfighter in "Django" as the result of some heavy drinking. "Quentin's a good friend of mine," she recently told Vulture. "And he lost a drinking bet, and the drinking bet was, if I could out-drink him in whiskey, I could play a cameo... I can out-drink twenty Quentin Tarantino impersonators at the same time with whiskey... I'm Scottish."

Turns out, Tamblyn was joking and the real, also-funny story emerged [via Vulture]:

"It was first a friend thing," she explained. "He texted me and said, 'Would you come do a cameo?' And I said yes. And after the fact, I said, 'It would be super cool [to have my father and me play Son of a Gunfighter and Daughter of a Son of a Gunfighter].' And Quentin was like, 'Sold. Done.' So it's sort of like this totally weird thing to happen and a total inside joke." It's also a sweet father-daughter memory. "It's such a cool moment for me to see my name in an old Western style next to my dad's," Tamblyn said. "Even though I didn't really have much of a role, that to me is like a career lifetime moment. Some day, when my dad is gone, I'll look at that and go, 'We were next to each other.'"

Remember Russ Tamblyn as the kooky psychiatrist in "Twin Peaks" who didn't kill Laura Palmer? Turns out those Tamblyns are a tad kooky in real life too: Russ walked Amber down the "isle" in her outdoor wedding last fall. Both were barefoot and Amber wore a yellow -- not white -- dress. Incidentally, she wed equally-if-not-more-kooky actor-comedian David Cross.
